Jason is the proud son of Oris Jones (Louisiana) and Mary Jones (New Jersey). His heart is his two beautiful daughters DiLexus Michelle, and Jailah Alexandria. Watching them grow and learn has been the pinnacle of his life’s work.
Professionally, Jones has served as Executive Director, CFO/school business administrator serving many businesses, charter startups and also school districts. He has overseen small start-up budgets through $1.4B, 5000 employees, 76 buildings and 49,000 students. He believes that his superpower is bringing out the best in others to achieve the organizational goal. His experience in policy and governance stems from his work legislative work for Congressman Donald Payne Jr and Frank Pallone Jr. in Washington DC.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science, his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with a minor in criminal justice and marketing, and his Master of Business Administration degree from Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City. MPA from Monmouth University. Jason started his Doctoral work in 2019.
Jason was 21 when elected to the Neptune Board of Education, being the youngest elected official in NJ at the time. During those 12+ years there he served on various committees as a chairman, member, Vice-President and President. His greatest moments were the inclusion of a Charitable Gifting of $1.3M Endowment for Early College High School and completion of a $365 million dollar long range facility plan that brought equity throughout the district.
Jones has also served as vice president of legislation for the Monmouth County School Boards Association and has held several other positions within the county association.
Jason A. Jones was elected to serve as New Jersey School Board as Vice-President for Legislation/Resolutions. He was the first Neptune Board Member to serve in a state-wide capacity.
Jason has served on the West Side Community Center Volunteer, Midtown Urban Renaissance Committee (MURC, Economic Development Council, Neptune Township Planning Board) & Recreation Committee, and also Deal Lake Commission.
On the national level, he has served as the Northeast Director of the National Association of Black School Educators; a legislative leader for the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA) Council of Urban Boards of Education; and has served on the NSBA’s Federal Relations Network, a group that advocates the interests of public education before Congress and federal agencies.
His dedication to community and education is based on those who assisted in educating him throughout his life.
Jason is an active member of Rotary International. Jason is a Life member of 20 years in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated, and has served as state treasurer and President of Zeta Epsilon Lambda. Jason received the Educator of the Year award in 2017 from the National Association of Negro Business & Professional Women's Club Inc. He also received the Wilber Ray Education award from Brookdale Community College.
Jason enjoys bringing out the best in others while working to be the best servant leaders with his loving daughters DiLexus and Jailah. You can catch Jason coaching youth basketball or softball, at a softball game, bike riding, or relaxing with his daughters on the weekends.
